NO GOLF LINKS UNDER WATER. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was no golf on Saturday owing to the links being under water. During the week J. Riwai beat S. Thomas in a Doughty Cup competition. Personal Items. Mr Guy Gillies has returned from the South Island. Miss Joan Lovegrove has left to take up her appointment as postmistress at Khandallah. Green and Gold Ball. The popular Green and Gold Ball will be held on Wednesday, September 3. Patrons are promised an enjoyable time. Pool’s Blue River Dance Band will supply the music. The net proceeds will be donated to the Provincial Patriotic Fund. Rough Weather. The weather over the weekend was exceedingly boisterous, a south-east-erly gale accompanied by heavy rain and sleet being experienced. The rivers in some places flooded the roads. Flood waters from the Tauanui stream entered the premises of the local cheese factory and operations were held up for some time. It is feared that mortality among lambs will be great. The hills are covered with snow.
