TE WHARAU

GOLF CLUB SUCCESSFUL DANCE. ("Times-Age” Special.) The Te Wharau Golf Club held a very successful dance in the local hall. There was a large attendance, including visitors from qther districts, all of whom thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The net proceeds were donated to the Ladies’ Committee of the district who are doing' such good work making garments and clothing for British refugees. Supper was provided by the ladies and the music was supplied by Mr B. Morris, who also contributed several songs. Extras were played by Mr R. McKinstry. A number of competitions were held during the evening. Mrs Schofield and Mr O. Sykes were the winners of the Monte Carlo dance. Soldiers Entertained. A most enjoyable time was spent on Saturday evening in the local hall, when Privates J. Laing and D. Turner were guests of honour. There was a good attendance, every family in the district being represented. In a few well chosen words, Mi’ S. Gray referred to the sacrifice the soldiers were making in going to the war. “We are proud of our local soldiers and we know they will give a good account of themselves." he said. On behalf of their friends and well wishers, Mr Gray handed each a wellfilled envelope. Cheers were given for the two soldiers, who suitably replied.

Music for the dancing was supplied by Mr B. Morris, and the ladies provided supper.
