Frost in Masterton.
A frost of 7.1 degrees was registered in Masterton this morning. Air Force Recruits. The Royal New Zealand Air Force recruiting Selection Board held a sitting at the Municipal Hall, Masterton, yesterday afternoon, when a number of recruits were interviewed. Medical examination will follow next week. Table Tennis. In a representative tennis match, played between Wairarapa and Wellington at Masterton on Saturday, Wellington won by 40 matches to 16. The president of the Wairarapa Association, Mr W. H. Day, welcomed the visitors. Supper was served by the local ladies. The Wairarapa team was: Mrs -J. Nichols, Misses Brown, J. Larsen, F. Masters, Messrs I. Coleman, J. Nichols, N. Myers and P. J. Greenlees.
New Appeal Boards. The establishment of three new armed forces appeal boards has been decided on by the War Cabinet, according to an announcement made last night by the Acting-Prime Minister, Mr Nash. It is likely that the new boards will be established in Auckland, Hawke's Bay and the South Island. "The extra boards are being established to help deal with the work offering, and to avoid getting too far behind with it,” Mr Nash said, when asked the reason for the appointment of the new boards. It is understood that full details of the personnel have not yet been decided, but the chairman in each case is likely to be a man prominent in legal circles. Doctor Problems Solved.
As a result of the projected departure of the resident medical officer, Dr. E. H. Densem, for Timaru, the greatest difficulty has been experienced in securing a medical man to replace him in Runanga. Failing the appointment of a successor, an attitude of “No doctor, no work,” was to have been adopted in the coming week by the union. This possibility has now, however, been overcome, it having been announced at a meeting of the medical society yesterday, at which Mr O’Brien, M.P., was present, that a successor had been obtained. He is fully qualified and is practising under British Medical Association credentials. A similar position arose in Brunnerton, due to the early departure of Dr. M. R. Sneddon, and here also a replacement has been effected. Dr. Sneddon' will complete his duties next week,
