AGAINST ENEMY BASES IN MEDITERRANEAN ACTIVITIES OF FLEET AIR ARM. AERODROMES IN SICILY RAIDED. (British Official Wireless..) (Received This Day, 10.10 a.m.) RUGBY. August 14. A R.A.F. Middle East communique states: "R.A.F. bombers carried out attacks on Bardip during the night of August 12. Direct hits wore obtained on the Customhouse and motor transport workshops. Enemy night fighters were seen, but did not attempt to intercept. Bombs were dropped on Derna. “During the same night heavy bombers of the R.A.F. carried out an attack on military objectives at Tripoli. The railway station was destroyed by our bombs and a number of fires were started. Other targets and motor transport on the coast road to Benghazi also were machine-gunned. “Fleet. Air Arm aircraft dropped bombs on the aerodromes of Catania and Gerbini and machine-gunned dispersed aircraft. One Cantz 506 was shot down by Hurricanes off Sicily on August 10. “From all these operations all our planes returned safely.”
