MAURICEVILLE
0 COUNTY COUNCIL BUSINESS AT YESTERDAY'S MEETING. ("Times-Age” Special.) A special meeting of the Mauriceville County Council was held yesterday to consider the county balancesheet which had been returned from the Audit Office. The balance sheet was adopted. Subsequent to the special meeting the monthly meeting was held. Councillor E. W. Cheetham, chairman, presiding. Also present wore Councillors A. Gray, A. Forsberg, O. Welch, D. Bennett, and J. H. MacDonald? The treasurer's report, which showed a debit balance of £1,400 10s Bd, was adopted. Accounts amounting to £917 16s 5d were passed. The county engineers advised that the Kopuaranga Stream Bridge on the Mauriceville-Hastwell Highway had been completed. They also reported that the filling for the approaches was in place but wet weather conditions had delayed the metalling of the gradings and approaches. Councillor A. Forsberg reported on the proceedings of a meeting of local body representatives held in the Borough Council Chambers, Masterton, on Monday, July 21. Councillor Forsberg was thanked for his comprehensive report. The District Engineer, Public Works Department, advised regarding approval of subsidies applied for, for the purpose of repairing flood damage on the county’s roads. Reports from the New Zealand Counties’ Association regarding local body finance and the after-treatment of soldiers and nurses were received.
The overseer’s report was received and future work was discussed and arranged for.
