♦ BOROUGH COUNCIL MONTHLY MEETING LAST NIGHT. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Borough Council was held last night. There were present the Mayor (Mr C. R. Holmes), Crs. M. N. Hardie, treasurer, C. W. Skill. G. P. Cotter. F. Gray, T. A. Hamilton. W. J. Blissett. Apologies were received for the absence of Crs. Sievers, Mulvaney and Corfield. The Crippled Children Society wrote thanking the Council for a donation of £5 towards the funds., The Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society wrote requesting the Council to declare a half holiday on the People’s Day of the show. —It was decided to agree to the request. A letter was received from Mr W. Smith complaining of the state of the footpath near the Presbyterian Church in Jellicoe Street. —It was decided that the matter be given attention. The Acting-Prime Minister wrote stating that the question of free travelling for men of the armed forces had been noted for consideration. Accounts to the amount of £259 were passed for payment. Cr. Skill, chairman of the Works Committee, reported that the leaky pipes in the water supply had been ■replaced by new ones and that the septic tank at the Town Hall had been enlarged and cleaned. The improvements at the headworks had been well tested during the recent flood. Cr. Hamilton spoke favourably of the facilities provided at the camping ground, and said that it compared well with the grounds provided for campers, in other centres. Cr. Gray said that notices were needed at the entrance gate of the ground in order to let campers know where to procure the keys. It was decided to bring the matter under the notice of the Wairarapa Automobile Association. Euchre Tourney. The ladies’ Hockey Club held a most successful euchre tourney last evening when upwards of 50 players were present. The prizes were won as follows: Ladies, Mrs Grimstone 1, Mrs Moffitt 2; men, Mr L. Harris 1. Mr E. Findlay 2. Garden Circle. The monthly meeting of the Garden Circle was held at Mrs T. A. Hamilton’s residence, when there was a fair attendance of members. The winners of the competitions were: Best bloom, Mrs Thomas 1, Mrs Hardie 2, Miss Boyd 3; shrubs, Mrs Boyd 1. An instructive talk on preparing dahlia bulbs for planting was given by Mrs Tyler. Coroner's Finding. A verdict of death from natural causes was returned by the District Coroner, Mr T. E. Lang, at an inquest held in Martinborough last night concerning the death of William Charles Dalton, who collapsed and died on Sunday morning, while delivering milk in the town.
