SCOUTS AND CUBS

BIRTHDAY PARTY. PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES. A birthday party was held by the St. Matthew’s Scout Group in the Den, Church Street. Proceedings opened with a community sing. The Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich presented the cups won by the Ruru Patrol (best all-round patrol and the Camp Cup competition winners), the Lions (Harold Langdon Memorial Cup), and the Seagulls (Mr J. F. Jaine’s Cup, for attendances at 'church parades), and badges to individual members. Mr Rich referred to the fact that the Scoutmaster (Mr R. Isles) who is now training in Trentham, had been granted leave of absence by the Scouts for the duration of the war. It was decided that a money belt and “hold all” be forwarded to Mr Isles at Trentham, as a slight recognition of his services to the troop. Items were given by the Cubs and Scouts. At supper a piece of the birthday cake, which was presented by Mesdames Skeet and Moser, was handed to each person present. The birthday party was organised by Messrs J. K. Jainc and E. F, Jaine, assistant Scoutmaster and Troop Leader, respectively. The supper was served by the ladies’ committee.
