ALFREDTON

PATRIOTIC SOCIETY FORTNIGHTLY GATHERING. ("Times-Age” Special.) The fortnightly “games night" conducted by the Patriotic Society was held on Saturday night. The winners in the euchre tournament were: —Ladies: Mrs Rolls and Mrs Seymour (eqtiSil). Men: Mr Anderson, Mr Reid and Mr Low (equal). A box of groceries was competed for and won by Mrs F. Johnson and realising £2. The following were auctioned by Mr R. Kebbell: —Violets, donated by Mrs Hurford, realised 7s; bulbs (Mrs R. Kebbell), realised 2s 6d; berries (Mrs E. Seymour), realised 6s; a cake given by Miss Thomas, brought 4s; vegetables grown by Master C. Leach, 6s 6d; cauliflower plants and leeks from Mrs R. Payne, 6s 6d; a setting of eggs and hen donated by Mrs V. Payne, realised 13s. The takings for the evening amounted to £8 14s 6d. The hostesses were Mesdames R. Kebbell, H. Kebbell and Miss Thomas. Personal. The friends of Miss Betty Edmonds will be pleased to hear that she is improving in health. Home Nursing. The members of the Women’s Auxiliary War Service were instructed in home nursing on Saturday afternoon by Mrs M. Stone-Wigg. Afterwards a parade was held, those in charge being Mr R. Kebbell and Mrs M. StoneWigg. The Home Guard. The Home Guard met at the Domain on Saturday and were instructed in signalling, the cleaning of firearms, etc.
