FEATHERSTON

EUCHRE TOURNAMENT SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The weekly euchre tournament held in the Red Cross Society rooms last evening was a very successful and enjoyable one. The sum of £3 Os 6d was taken. The prize at cards was won by Mrs Lawson. In the competitions Mesdames Bergh and Willett were successful. The doll’s cot was won by Norma Gundersen. Gifts were received from Mesdames Batty, Lawson, Arch. Clark, H. Clark, and N. C. C. Shepherd. A donation of 10s was received from Mrs Cherry. Personal Items. Miss Phil. Hatton has returned to Wellington after having spent the weekend in Featherston. Miss Elsie Sigvertsen, Eketahuna, was the weekend guest of Miss Nancy Hatton. At a recent meeting of the Plunket Society Mesdames Q. Donald and H. R. Bloxam were appointed delegates to represent the Society at the annual conference of delegates of the Plunket Society which is to be held in Wellington next month. The late Mr William Stewart, of Featherston, was born in Edinburgh, and came to New Zealand with his parents when a small boy and settled in Christchurch. He was a veteran of the Boer War and the Great War. For a number of years he had resided in various parts of the Wairarapa. The late Mr Stewart is survived by a widow. The funeral took place yesterday and was largely attended by returned soldiers. The pall-bearers were Messrs J. W. Fellingham, W. Phillips, V. B. Morgan, W. Cuff, J. Lobb and F. Cassidy. Numerous wreaths were received including one from the R.S.A. The Rev. R. S. Keenan conducted the services at the house and the graveside. Mr J. George, Pahiatua, is visiting his granddaughter, Mrs J. W. Fellingham. First Aid Lecture. Dr. G. S. Sharp will give his final lecture in First Aid tonight. After the school holidays the class will begin lessons in Home Nursing.
