♦ GOLF CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP CONTESTS. (“Times-Age” Special.) ‘ Playing on Ihe local golf links on Saturday. K. Waiwera defeated W. Charteris in the second eliminating round for the junior championship. M. McLeod defaulted to M. Waiwera and W. Stewart to T. Hume. Mrs Herangi beat Mrs Carter in the second round of the ladies’ championship. Personal Items. Mr Duncan Didsbury is visiting his parents in Wellington. Advice has been received that his brother, Colin, who is in the R.A.F., is missing from operations over Germany. Miss Miriam Lovegrove has commenced her duties as assistant at the local post office. Mr Percy Haligan, who has been visiting Auckland, has returned home. The death occurred in the Masterton Hospital on Saturday morning, after a short illness, of Robert Hutana, eldest son of Mrs Bragg and the late Mr W. Hutana. The deceased, who was 16 years of age, was exceedingly popular. He is survived by his mother, Miss Makere Hutana and Walter Hutana, of Pirinoa. The funeral, which took place on Monday, was largely attended. Elder Taurau officiated at the graveside. Mr and Mrs H. B. McMaster have taken up their residence at Te Hopai. Mrs Heta, Halcombe, is staying with her parents, Mr and Mrs Watene. The Rev. H. Taepa conducted aChurch of England service at Turanganui on Sunday. Pasture Growth. Recent bad weather has materially affected the growth of pastures. Not To Be Held. The Queen contest in connection with the Green and Gold Ball on September 3 will not be held. Cheese Factory. The local cheese factory will begin operations during the week and the annual meeting of shareholders will also take place this week.
