GOLF CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES. (“Times-Age” Special.) Further games played in connection with the Greytown Golf Club’s championships resulted as follows: — Intermediate: W. Everett beat F. Dewhurst; N. McLeod beat I. Coleman at the 20th. Junior: A. G. Peterson beat REccles.
First consolation: H. Bull beat E. Maddison; E. Williams beat G. Te Whaiti; G. R. Brunton beat R. C. Bunny. Second consolation: I. Keltie beat P. Pone: S. Shedden beat T. Dewhirst; W.'Tully beat S. Brice. The best cards handed in for the Stableford competition were: —G. Te Whaiti, 37; T. R. Ingley, 36; F. C. Bunny, 35; N. McLeod, 34; I. Coleman. 33; S. Shedden, 32; G. Burns, 32; W. Tully, 31; H. Bull, 29. PRIMARY SCHOOLS TRIAL GAME AT CARTERTON. A trial game between North and South Wairarapa primary school teams was played at Carterton on Saturday with the object of selecting a Wairarapa team to take part in a tourney at Wanganui at the end of this month. Another practice will be held this week and the final selection of the team will then be made. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs F. Wells and family, of Wellington, were the guests of Miss Feast, West Street, for the weekend. Miss Maureen O’Connor, of Kelburn, is the guest of Mrs J. Kiernan, East Street. The following were the results of the third round of the Challenge Cup: —Mrs Mead, 87, 17, 70, 3 points; Mrs Jury, 91, 18, 73, 2 points; Mrs Maddison, 92, 18, 74, 1 point. The ladies’ L.G.U. medal results were: —Silver: Mrs Mead, 87, 17, 70; Mrs-Jury, 91, 18. 73; Mrs Maddison, 92, 18, 74; Mrs McPhee, 87, 11, 76; Miss O. Nix, 88, 12, 76; Miss E. Gregor, 95, 18, 77.. Bronze: Mrs G. Ingley, 101, 25, 76; Miss B. Gregor, 110, 32, 78; Mrs C. Ingley, 99, 19, 80. Hockey. The local ladies’ hockey team is to be congratulated on the play during the season, especially as the team has travelled more than any other team. They may also pride themselves on the fact that they are the only team in the past two years to have beaten the champions. Had the team been able to retain its regular membership and team places generally, its success might have been, even greater. While no one is exactly a brilliant individualist, every player is a determined team mate, this having been reflected in positional play generally. Altogether. local supporters can feel quite satisfied that this season’s Kia Kaha team has maintained a splendid standard and style of play. For the second year in succession the Kia Kaha ladies have been run-ners-up. Last year they were two points behind the leaders; this season they reduced the margin to one. Although the Scouts played two short they had little difficulty in beating Old Boys, chiefly by keeping their attack to the right. This enabled Gallon to make splendid openings, of which he himself, too, made good use. At centre-half, Warren Trotman again displayed most promising stickwork. As a half-back, he has developed a very fine style. _____
