BADMINTON

ST MATTHEW’S v PAHIATUA. The St. Matthew’s Badminton team played a return match with Pahiatua at the Pahiatua Drill Hall on Saturday. The visitors were entertained at tea by the Pahiatua team and the 60 players present thoroughly enjoyed themselves. St. Matthew's won by 40 games and 950 points to 21 games and 774 points. Mr L. Heayns, who welcomed the St. Matthew’s team, said he was pleased to see so many players present. Mr W. L. Harrington replied on behalf of the visitors, and thanked Pahiatua for its entertainment. The games were keenly contested and enjoyed by all. A sit down supper was provided at the conclusion of play. Three cheers were given for Pahiatua. Results are: Men’s doubles, St. Matthew’s 4 games, Pahiatua 4 games: ladies’ doubles, St. Matthew’s 6, Pahiatua 2; men’s singles, St. Matthew’s 9, Pahiatua 6; ladies’ singles, St. Matthew’s 8, Pahiatua 7; combined doubles, St. Matthew's 13, Pahiatua ‘2.
