COLLEGE CONTEST ST. ANDREW’S CUP TO N. TOWNS. DAWN COUPER WINS JUNIOR CUP. The finals of 'the senior boys' and junior oratory contests were held at the Wairarapa College yesterday afternoon. Eight sth and 6th form boys competed for the St. Andrew’s Cup donated by the late Mr R. Miller.The names of the contestants and their subjects were: G. S. Orr (Henry Ford), A. Moore (Oliver Cromwell), E. Jaine (Gino Watkins), B. Donnelly (Lawrence of Arabia), G. N. Lyttle (Lawrence of Arabia), N. Towns (Otto Strasser), T. C. A. Taylor (Kemal Ataturk), J. M. Cunningham (Ibn Saud of Arabia). The judge, Mr H. Mackenzie Douglas, was most helpful in his criticisms and hints to the speakers and placed the first four as follows: —N. Towns, 75 points, E. 'Jaine, 73 points, G. N. Lyttle and J. M. Cunningham, 70 points. N. Towns is thus the first winner of the Si. Andrew’s Cup. The final of the junior contest was held at the same time, the judge being Mr J. E. Tier. The junior cup was won by Dawn Couper (Lawrence of Arabia), with Joy Shaw (Abraham Lincoln) second, and B. Blackwood (John Brown) third.

Both cups were presented to the winners by Mrs R. Miller. The final of the senior girls’ oratory contest will be held at the College next Friday.
