Frost in Masterton.
A frost of 8.6 degrees was registered in Masterton this morning. Basketball Tourney. Playing in the quadrangular basketball tourney in Wellington yesterday afternoon, the Wairarapa College team defeated Dannevirke High School by 13 goals to 7. Baby Eats Crystals. A ten months old baby, Russell Wallace of Greytown, was admitted to Masterton Hospital yesterday afternoon. The baby is reported to have eaten some Condy’s crystals. Its condition this morning was reported as satisfactory. West School Grounds. An inspection of the Masterton West School’s playing area was made this week by Mr E. Savage, the Education Department’s architect, with a view to ascertaining the actual cost of improvements proposed to be earned out to the grounds. The proposed improvements are connected with the recently built open-air school. Emergency Hospital Staffing. A meeting of the Emergency Hospital Staffing Committee was held at the “Times-Age” Office last evening. There were present Mrs Robert Miller (in the chair) and Mesdames H. J. Bannister, V. H. Veath, E. J. Burke, and the secretary, Miss M. Diggins. Several names of helpers who are willing to give their assistance in case of emergency were received, also the names of persons willing to supply a tea dish in the event of these hospitals being necessary. Matters relating to this important service were discussed.
