A. AND P. ASSOCIATION i ANNUAL MEETING. SATISFACTORY YEAR RECORDED. There was a good attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Masterton A. and P. Association held in Masterton yesterday. The president, Mr R. E. Gordon Lee, presided. Several apologies for absence were received. A motion of sympathy was passed with members who had suffered bereavements. “The committee and members should be pleased with the position disclosed,’’stated Mr Lee. "The net result of the year's working is an addition to the accumulated funds of £657 0s Id, our .actual profit for the year being £157 0s Id. The £657 0s Id includes the £5OO received under the will of the late Mr David Guild. The depreciation written off amounted to £175 12s. It is not my intention to make a resume of the past year in regard to prices, labour, etc., nor am I going to prophesy regarding the future, but I do appeal to the farming community to carry on their normal activities in the spirit that they should during war time. "Although the ranks of the farming community are seriously depleted,” said Mr Lee, “I have no hesitation in saying that the farmers are prepared to produce all they can to help the war effort in an endeavour to win through. As to the future for shows, I personally think we should carry on, if at all possible. Should the war horizon draw nearer, then we will have to alter our plans accordingly. In the meantime we must prepare as usual. At the beginning of the last financial year the committee, anticipating a reduction in show revenue, deleted a number of classes where entries had been small and also made a reduction in prize moneys to the extent of 30 per cent. "" Other associations also adopted similar policies so as to be able to balance their budgets. We also donated the profit from the annual ball, amounting to £53 13s lid to the local Patriotic Fund, and also half the profits from the night show, £4l 15s 9d, to the Army Queen Committee, so in ad? dition to our own activities we have assisted the war funds to the extent of ■ £95 9s Bd. I wish to express my thanks to the general public for the .manner they supported the show. It was very gratifying to see such large attendances both days and night during the war time, and it gives the committee much pleasure to know that the work it is doing is appreciated.” In seconding the adoption of the annual report Mr D. B. Curry congratulated the executive on the satisfactory outcome of the year's working. Sir William Perry was re-elected patron. Mr Lee eulogised his services and said he was the staunchest supporter the Association had. Sir William Perry returned thanks.
Mi- Lee was re-elected as president for the third successive year. Tribute • was paid to his services in the interests of the society. Mrs D. K. McKenzie and Mr J. C. Cooper waited on the meeting and made representations for the Association to provide a suitable room for the St. John Ambulance at the showgrounds.
Mr Lee stated that the matter would receive the sympathetic consideration of the grounds committee. Officers for the ensuing year are as follows: Patron, Sir William Perry; president, Mr R. E.
