GIFT PARCELS

CHRISTMAS DISTRIBUTION TO SOLDIERS.

PREPARATION & DESPATCH. Local patriotic committees throughout the Wairarapa are being circularised by the zone secretary, Mr G. T. O’Hara Smith, regarding particulars relating to the preparation and despatch of Christmas gift parcels to New Zealand soldiers overseas. These parcels require to be received in Wellington towards the end of September. The quota for the Wairarapa zone, which extends from the Hawke’s Bay provincial boundary to Palliser Bay, is 1287. In addition to these parcels, 50 cigarettes or 4oz of tobacco and paper will be sent under separate cover to every man, through the National Patriotic Fund Board. Two 41b cakes will also be included, provided by the National Fund Board, in every petrol case, which will contain eight parcels, so that every man will receive one pound of cake. The suggested contents of parcels are: Tin of fruit, tin of soup, tin of coffee and milk or cream, tin of chocolates or sweets, tin of tongue or lamb and green peas but not beef or fish, a comb or writing paper, soap or other toilet article. .
