ESPERANTO

MASTERTON CLUB MEETING. At the weekly meeting of the Masterton Esperanto Club held last evening. Mr W. J. Beresford presided over a good attendance of members. During the consideration of formal business, it was decided that the club would in future meet each Tuesday instead of on Monday evening . The secretary (Mr W. H. King), reported on his recent interview with the secretary of the New Zealand Esperanto Association and with Mr W. L. Edmanson, F.8.E.A., at Wellington, the father of Esperanto in the Dominion, and presented salutations on their behalf. Mr A. G. Wiltshire presented a reading of “La Espero,” the Esperanto anthem written by the creator of the international language, the late Dr. L. L. Zamenhof, the verses being later translated into English. This was followed by club members undertaking the reading and translation of an article from “La Interna Ideo,” the New Zealand Esperanto magazine. The final session was devoted to Esperanto conversation. Substantial progress was discernible in this practical work, during which members displayed an increasing fluency in the use of the international language.
