LADIES’ ASSOCIATION

CHAMPIONSHIP FIXTURES CONCLUDED.

DOUBLE HONOURS TO EXCELSIOR

Last Saturday saw the conclusion of both the senior and junior championship competitions conducted by the Wairarapa Ladies’ Hockey Association. The Excelior Club has again had a very successful season, and for the second year in succession has gained both the senior and 'junior titles. The. senior team has now won the championship for the fifth successive time and in that period won all matches played with the exception of one game lost and. one drawn. N ctes. The Wairarapa Ladies’ Association ihas decided to enter a team for the i New Zealand tourney to be held, af Blenheim towards the end of this month. Should, however, the selectors decide that the players available would not permit of a truly representative team being sent away, the entry will be cancelled. Next Saturday a trial game will be played between teams chosen by the selectors, and from which the final selection of the tournament team will be made.

There will be no match against Pongaroa this year, but it is to be hoped that last year’s innovation of a Wairarapa Maoris v Pakeha team will be repeated. The funds of the Wairarapa Ladies’ Hockey Association are in a very flourishing condition, there being a record credit balance at. present of over £lOO. The money will be put to good use, as in addition to its transport scheme which has worked so satisfactorily during the past two seasons, the Association has under consideration ap ambitious scheme for introducing hockey into the primary schools, and thus ensuring a steady flow of recruits to the various clubs under its control. The Association has decided that any

team forfeiting must notify Mr A. Southey before 10 a.m. on the day of the match, otherwise a fine of 5s will be imposed. This action has been taken to avoid, unnecessary travelling on the part of referees, who have not been aware that a match has been cancelled until they arrive on the ground.
