SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP.
WESLEY v OLD BOYS.
Wesley and Old Boys met at Lansdowne on Saturday and a fast and exciting, and at times, hard game was witnessed, especially in the second spell. Cid Boys set the pace at the start and after a few minutes play Worthington scored a good goal. From the half way bully Wesley attacked, Wainscott s shot being well stopped by Parsons. Cid Boys took play to the Wesley circle, Worthington again scoring. From an attack by Wesley, Old Boys conceded a penalty corner. The corner hit was not stopped and the ball was cleared to put Old Boys on the attack. Wesley cleared with a free hit and theii forwards attacked from which Hayes scored. From the bully Old Boys broke through but Maister made a good save. Wesley then had Old Boys in trouble,, a penalty corner being awarded against them. The shot from the corner was saved by Parsons. The spell ended 2-1 in favour of Old Boys. From the commencement of the second spell Old Boys attacked. Wesley conceding a penalty corner from which Faulknor scored. A spell of even, fast play followed. Wesley were the first to gain an advantage from this even play, Old Boys having a penalty corner given against them. From the shot at goal Jaine kicked the ball with the result that he had to defend a penalty bully. R. Harrington took the bully for Wesley and was successful in scoring from it. Being one goal down Wesley put a lot of determination into their play and from a scramble in Old Boys' circle Wainscott evened the score. A long hit by Wesley was fast followed up by R. Harrington whose shot at goal was well saved by Parsons. Old Boys conceded a penalty cornel’ but the hit cut was not stopped. Old Boys cleared and attacked. They were awarded a penalty corner. The shot at goal hit the upright. Just before time Wesley attacked and Parsons made another good save. The game ended in a draw, 3 goals each. Messrs Hayne and Cole were the umpires. CARTERTON v GREYTOWN. EASY WIN FOR CARTERTON, Carterton and Greytown met at Greytown, Carterton winning by. a margin of four goals, thus maintaining their undefeated record ■to date this season. POSITION OF TEAMS. CARTERTON IN THE LEAD. The positions of the men’s senior teams in the competition at the end of the third round were as follow:—Carterton 18 points, Wesley 8, Old Boys 6, Greytown 4.
