Personal Items. Mrs C. G. Bouzaid is at present visiting her daughter at Lower Hutt. Mr and Mrs O. Skeet have returned from a motor tour of the North Island. Mrs L. H. Wightman, of the Bay of Islands, is staying with Mr and Mrs O. Skeet. Mr and Mrs Rennie, of Petone, are the guests of Mr and Mrs Geo. Burns, Main Street. Misses Esme and Eunice Best and Miss Molly Skeet were weekend visitors to Greytown. Hockey Notes. Ground conditions were bad for play generally on Saturday when all three local teams played on their home grounds. Scouts were outclassed by the faster Dalefield team, who are the junior championship leaders by a substantial margin. There was a considerable improvement in the play of Day and Skeet this week. The Scouts, in the circumstances, did well. By continuing to maintain a right wing attack they did invade Dalefield’s territory frequently, only to be driven back by good backs oi’ because their own forwards on the left were too slow to make use of opportuninies. The best Dalelield attacker was Sayers. The senior game was a very fast game. Time after time Greytown got within a yard of the goal mouth but lacked ability to finish the movement successfully. Eccles, for a newcomer to the game, played very well indeed. The local backs again cleared wrongly in almost all cases. What was worse, however, was their failure at penalty corners against them, to get out far enough to allow their goalie good vision. Hobson gave a good display. The ladies’ game was marred by rain and the fact that Kia Ora played short. The latter are worthy of praise for the fact that they turned up at all with only nine players, and for their splendid spirit of “no surrender.”
