COUNTY AFFAIRS
MEETING OF FEATHERSTON COUNCIL HOME GUARD REQUEST ASSISTANCE. TO ENABLE TRAINING TO CONTINUE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting .of the Featherston County Council was held at Martinborough today. The chairman, Mr A. B. Martin, presided. There were also present: Councillors D. Cameron, J. C. Bidwill, Q. Donald, R. Smith, J. A. McLeod, G. Gillies, L. J. Thompson and R. W. Matthews. Accounts for £3,318 14s 2d were passed. Mr L. McCormick (Featherston) was granted permission to erect a culvert at his gate, subject to the approval of the engineer. Mr G. D. Wishart, Adjutant of the Martinborough Home Guard, wrote asking for financial assistance to enable training to continue. It was decided to hold consideration of the application over until a meeting of borough and county representatives had been held in Masterton on July 21. The Railways Department advised that it would clear noxious weeds on the lands adjoining the Western Lake Road.
The ranger reported having dealt with 257 dogs and 3 head of stock.
