The Hon. A. H. Nordrneyer, Minister lof Health, left for the south by the 'steamer express last night. Mr Ernest W. Hunt has been _ reelected chairman of the executive of the Wellington Crippled Children Society. Major C. A. Williamson is appointed a member of the Wellington Coast Artillery Board, by notice in last nights Gazette. The death occurred yesterday at Kahutara Road, Featherston, of Mr John Houliston, formerly of Martinborough, at the age of 73 years. Professor C. E. Hercus, of the University of New Zealand, has been appointed as a member of the. Board of Health for three years from July 1, according to a notification in last night’s Gazette. Mr H. M. Nicolson, J.P., formerly of Carterton and Masterton, who recently underwent an operation at the Hobson Street Private Hospital, Wellington, will return to his home, Otaki, at the week-end.

Lieutant-Commissioner J. Evan Smith and Mrs Smith, territorial leaders of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, will leave shortly for Sydney, where a conference with the two leaders of the Australian territories will take place. Word has been received by his father, who resides in Ashburton, that Warrant-Officer Jack Broom, formerly a member of the Red Star senior football team, and Wairarapa full back, is now a prisoner of war in Greece. He was formerly reported as missing. Lieutenant-Colonel C. S. White, V.D., N.Z.T.S., commandant of Papakura military camp, and Major T. P. Laffey, N.Z.S.C., staff officer in charge of training at the camp, have been transferred temporarily to the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Lieutenant-Colonel White will serve with the temporary rank of colonel. Major Laffey will be succeeded by Major V. W. Sugden, N.Z.S.C. Private advice has been received by Mr and Mrs T. O'Neill, of Lansdowne, that their son, Private Phil O’Neill, is missing in Crete, and believed to be a prisoner of war. Private O’Neill, who is 19 years of age, was one of the youngest men in Masterton to enlist, his age being 17 years 8 months at the time of his departure. He was a member of the Swimming Club and an old boy of Wairarapa College.
