NAVAL BASES
SINGAPORE & DUTCH EAST INDIES AVAILABLE TO ANY ALLIED FLEET. EXPANSION PROGRAMMES COMPLETED. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.5 a.m.) SINGAPORE, July 7. The authorities report that the Singapore Base has been made ready for servicing of any Allied fleet, with ample stores. The Netherlands East Indies Marine Department is completing huge expansion programmes at Sourabaya, where the defences and approaches have been greatly strengthened. Amboina Isle is now a modern base, extending the striking power of the south-west Pacific Democracies by 600 miles to the north.
