T'he conflict .between Ecuador and Peru arose from an ancient border* dispute, which had been smouldering for years. ' Ecuador blamed Peru foi’ the attack, declaring that it was an aggression of a political character and that the attack was prepared from a military viewpoint. Therefore Ecuador’s army was ordered to fight. Land, sea and air forces have already been engaged. Peruvian reports state that Ecuador began hostilities, by attacking Peruvian border posts and that the attacks have been repulsed.
