EFFECTIVE BLOWS

ENEMY SHIP BLOWN UP AT TRIPOLI

LARGE VESSEL SEVERELY DAMAGED.

DESTRUCTION OF ENEMY PLANES

LONDON, July 1. In a successful raid on the harbour of Tripoli, in Libya, the R.A.F. hit an enemy vessel, which blew up. Another was seen to be half sunk and a 20,000-ton ship was severely damaged. The planes machine-gunned disembarked troops and enemy seaplanes on the water. Considerable damage was done and there were many casualties. An enemy aerodrome in the vicinity was attacked and at least five aircraft were destroyed. In Cyrenaica the R.A.F. shot down seven enemy planes and damaged others while on patrol over ships off the coast.

HEAVY BOMBERS

USED IN DAY RAIDS ON GERMANY.

SIGNIFICANT DEVELOPMENT IN AIR WAR.

(British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.5 a.m.) RUGBY, July 1. Official air circles stress the use of heavy bombers in daylight raids by the R.A.F. yesterday. These raids were the most extensive yet undertaken in daylight and the loss of only one bomber in a long journey over Germany is thought to show either extremely good use of cloud cover by the attacking force or a somewhat large-scale movement of German fighters eastwards.

It is pointed out that these raids on Germany were in addition to offensive sweeps over occupied territory and attacks on. Dutch islands and enemy convoys.
