“THE DOVER ROAD”

LITTLE THEATRE SOCIETY PRODUCTION. No better choice of a play for production could have been made by the Masterton Little Theatre Society than one of A. A. Milne’s writings. Full of humour, a keen sense of drama, and a delightfully characteristic youthful gaiety, through each runs a curious touch of whimsy that has made many critics see a close similarity between Barrie's dramatic work and Milne's. These qualities are contained in "Tht Dover Road” to perhaps a greater degree than in any other cl' Milne’s plays. ! A. A. Milne was b'-rn in 1882, and was educated at Westminster and Trin-j ily College, Cambridge. He first made, his reputation as a writer for ‘ Punch,” ■ f which he was editor from 19(16 till i 914, when he went on active war service. He served in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment until 1919. His only c'-lmo story, "The Red House Mystery.” was published in 1921. and proved a great success. There followed the writing of the now famous and muchlovcd "When We Were Very Young" <1921). "Winnie-the-Pooh” <19261. “Now We Are Six" (1927), and "The House at Pooh Corner.” In the meantime. he had turned cut several plays, which had a great success and are still constantly revived. Of these, "The Dover Road" is probably the most popular, and has been most frequently seI Iccted for revival. i The first performance of Rio play in i London took place at the Theatre | Royal, Haymarket, on June 7. 1922. and | included in the east wore such famous I players as Henry Ainley.
