AIASTERTON ART CLUB
MISS W. M. DAVIS TALKS ON “EMBROIDERY." GENERAL EXHIBITION. PLANNED FOR NOVEMBER. A blazing log fire did much to counter the bitterly cold weather last night, when the Masterton Art Club held its first meeting since the club exhibition on June 11 and 12. It was understandable that the ' weather should keep many members at home, and. consequently, there was a relatively small audience for the speaker, Miss’W. M. Davis, of Solway College. Male members felt at the beginning rather intimidated by the subject, "Embroidery," but Miss Davis had a delightfully informal manner of dealing with it which all members found entertaining and interesting. Various types of embroidery were explained, by Miss Davis, who illustrated her talk with examples of her own and her pupils’ work, and told of her methods of teaching. A vote of thanks to the speaker was carried by acclamation.
A successful opening exhibition was reported on by the president, Mr A. E. T. Clemas, and the treasurer, at a short business meeting which preceded Miss Davis’s talk. Members expressed satisfaction with the result, in every aspect, of the exhibition, and plans were ap proved for a comprehensive general exhibition in November, as a further club effort for patriotic funds. Preliminary steps already taken were approved and further plans were made, in considerable detail.
