DRUIDS’ LODGE

MEETING IN MASTERTON. DISPENSARY CONCESSIONS. A.D. Bro. A. G. Swinn presided over a meeting of Stonehenge Lodge of Druids held in Masterton. There was a good attendance. A satisfactory report on the recent dance was presented by P.A. Bro. W. R. Pawson. Thanks were expressed to Mrs C. C. Whilmhurst and the ladies’ committee and Bros. Pawson, Pike, Spackman, C. C. Wilmshurst. It was stated that the dance was the most successful to date and the change from monthly to fortnightly dances had met with the approval of patrons. A further report was received from the U.F.S. Dispensary indicating that the concessions which lodge members had received in the past would continue to be granted in those cases ini which the Social Security Act requested payment to be made by the public. The half-yearly balance sheet was adopted, subject to audit. Members expressed satisfaction with the position disclosed. All members of the lodge who had joined prior to May 3 1940. and who had left or were leaving on active service had been and would be kept: fully financial until their return to New Zealand or demobilisation, whichever was the earlier. Reference was made to the death of Dr. J. A. Cowie. It was decided to place on record appreciation of his services.

It was reported that J.P.G.P. Bro. A. L. Williams had been appointed Grand Secretary of the Order in place of the late Bro. J. H. Lawson. It was decided to send him a letter of congratulation.

Reports on sick brethren were received from the bards. Sick pay and accounts' for £7O 3s were passed. A welcome was extended to Bro. Horton, of Eastbourne, who was on a brief visit to Masterton.
