Maori Recordings. 'A Maori "Digger” of the last Great War writes to say that he heartily endorses the protest made by a Maori "Digger” which appeared in the "TimesAge” in reference to the absence of Maori recordings from overseas. He states further that representations should be made to the broadcast authorities responsible to see that Maori soldiers be given equal opportunities with their pakeha comrades to speak over the air to their relatives and ■friends at home.

Personal Items. Mr Tamaihotua (George) Aporo, a well-known and highly respected resident of the Lower Valley and Martinborough districts, who died in the Masterton Hospital at the age of 62 years, was born in the Lower Valley, and had lived in the Wairarapa all his life. He was the husband of Niniwa Heremaia, one of the paramount chieftainesses of .the Wairarapa. and who predeceaseci him some fifteen years ago. He married again, and a widow and five children are left to mourn their loss. Mrs Haeatal (Martinborough) is a sister, and Mr George Te Whaiti (Greytown) a ■nephew. The funeral took place at Martinborough yesterday afternoon. Mrs T. Hume is visiting Wellington. Mrs Simeon is the guest of Mrs Enoka.

Bachelors and Spinsters’ Ball. The Bachelors and Spinsters’ Ball, which is to be held in the Memorial Hall on Wednesday, July 2, promises to be an outstanding social success. A first-class orchestra has been engaged, and the supper arrangements are in the hands of a committee of ladies. The organisers are sparing no efforts to make the ball the most successful ever held in the district. The proceeds are to be devoted to patriotic purposes.
