CRIPPLED CHILDREN
MEETING OF WAIRARAPA EXECUTIVE. PRESENTATION TO MR L. J. GRAY. Mr E. M. Hodder presided over the monthly meeting of the executive or the Wairarapa branch of the New Zealand Crippled Children Society. There were also present: Messrs S.'L. P. Free. R. C. Drummond, H. L. Robinson, H. A. R. Dunderdale and L. F. Gray (joint hon. secretaries) and Mrs S. N. Kilgour (Welfare Officer). An apology for absence v/as received from Mrs H. E. Pither. Correspondence was received from local bodies concerning the recent appeal. It was decided to send letters of thanks to donors. Satisfactory reports were received on the number of cases dealt with during the past month. The Welfare Officer reported that during the month she visited ten homes and attended to 20 cases. Two new cases had been reported to her and following examinations would be fully reported on at the next meeting. Accounts for £l2 6s Id were passed. Thanks were expressed to Mrs J. Lawson for the donation of books to the circulating library. The chairman and others present made reference to the work of the late Dr. J. A. Cowie as a member of the medical referee committee.
It was reported to the meeting that Mr L. J. Gray, a joint secretary, and Dr, Oakey, of Greytown, were leaving New Zealand on active service. A presentation was made to Mr Gray as an appreciation of his services over the past. 4 years. All present joined with the chairman in eulogising Mr Gray's work and wished him a safe and speedy return to New Zealand. It was decided to send a letter conveying similar sentiments to Dr. Oakey.
