COLLEGE BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING HELD LAST NIGHT. REPORT OF THE PRINCIPAL. The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa College Board of Governors was held last night. The chairman, Mr W. R. Nicol, presided. There were also present Mrs J. L. Hair, Messrs A. Owen Jones, L. T. Daniell, F. C. Daniell, F. M. Whyte, G. C. L. Dickel, J. D. O’Connor and T. Hanley. The Wairarapa Trades and Labour Council advised that Mr Hanley had been re-appointed employees’ representative on the board. The Farmers’ Union, A. and P. Association and employers also advised of the re-appoint-ment of Mr L. T. Daniell for a further term.
The chairman congratulated the members on their reappointment. The Principal (Mr G. G. Hancox) reported that owing to roll numbers falling, due to war conditions, the elementary book-keeping. University Entrance, science, history and geography night classes had been stopped. The average attendance for the opening weeks this term was 243 boys'and 205 girls. It was recommended that the Education Department be asked to make the services of the school medical officer available to the college. The first section of the Carnegie Art set had been received and during the term would be shared between the college and Solway College. A donation had been received from the Wairarapa Basketball Association towards ground improvements. Misses M. Blatchford, Thelma Davis, N. Heckler, and Messrs I. Dale and C. Lyttle' had donated books to the library. The First Fifteen would play Napier Boys’ High School at Napier on July 4. On the same day the Dannevirke girls’ hockey teams would play at the college.
