SOCIAL GATHERING POPULAR RESIDENT FAREWELLED. ("Times-Age” Special.) Last evening members of the Fire Brigade and friends gathered at the Public Hall to farewell Mr W. Brown, an honorary member of the Brigade, and also a popular officer of the railway staff, on the eve of his departure, on promotion, to Marton. A most enjoyable time was spent. Superintendent H. Rogers presided over a large attendance. During the evening the opportunity was taken by Mr R. Dickson, president of the Golf Club, to present Mr Brown with a well-charged tobacco pouch. In making the presentation Mr Dickson said that during his association with the club, Mr Brown had proved himself to be a good worker and was very popular with the members of the club. Mr Brown in reply, said that he had enjoyed the good fellowship extended to him at all times from the club, and thanked them for the gift and good wishes extended to him. Mr M. W. Priest proposed the toast of the guest of the evening. He said that Mr and Mrs Brown had s always been to the fore in assisting every good cause and in this respect the town could ill afford to lose them. Mr Priest handed Mi' Brown a rimless wallmirror. Mr Brown suitably replied. Other toasts honoured during the evening were: The Railway Dept, (proposed by Mr H. E. Greathead, replied to by Mr V. Wimsett); Fire Brigade (Mr N. Williams—Supt. Rogers); Borough Council (Mr R. Payne—Messrs B. R. Gallagher, K. Marenzi, M. W. Priest); Carriers' Association (Mr N. Dickson —Mr J. Ryan); The Artists (Mr S. Daniel—Mr T. Hooper); The Ladies (Mr H. Leslie —Mr T. Jago); The Press, Mr H. Gyde. Most appreciated items were rendered by Messrs T. Hooper, B. McAlister, R. Walters, B. Dinnan, and M. Shale.
