ESPERANTO

— — MASTERTON CLUB MEETING. The weekly meeting of the Masterton Esperanto Club was held last evening. Mr W. J. Beresford presiding over a good attendance of members. Club members furnished lists of names and addresses of supporters of I and sympathisers with the Esperanto movement for inclusion in the Dornin-j ion directory now being compiled by] the New Zealand Esperanto Associa-i tion. Mrs N. Lamont presented a short reading in Esperanto entitled “Lakto < kaj Akvo,” the text of which was written last century by the late Dr. L. L. Zamenholf. the Polish creator of Esperanto. After hearing the article, members commented on the simplicity of style and observed that the syntax of the language has not changed during the 50 years that Esperanto has been in practical use. Further attention was given to reading at sight, the repetition of reading and translation of passages from the New Zealand magazine, “La Interna Ideo.” A “general question” period was introduced for the purpose of acquiring practice in this field of speech. The final item was contributed by the secretary (Mr W. H. King), who gave a short talk on “From the Life of a SoL dier.”
