FEATHERSTON

V.A. ORGANISATION INTERESTING ADDRESS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Although the weather on Saturday afternoon was very cold, a number of Red Cross Society members and others interested, attended the Red Cross Society's rooms to hear an address given by Mrs Stewart, Wairarapa Commandant of the Order of St. John and the New Zealand Red Cross Society. Among those present were several members of the Kahutara-Pahautca sub-centre. Mrs Sharp (president) introduced Mrs Stewart, who congratulated the Featherston sub-centre on the work it had achieved. She then went on to suggest that the sub-centres amalgamate and form Voluntary Aid Detachments of 48 V.A., or sections of 12 Voluntary Aids with their own committees. Owing to the scarcity of metal, it was found that medalions could not be given but extra certificates would be supplied. Mrs Stewart told the students not to rush examinations,; to practise under blackout conditions and to have an emergency bundle in readiness. She said that students should make a point of attending all lectures and parades and to sign up their record cards for three years training. Mrs Stewart then spoke on V.A. work. Miss Elliot, Centre secretary, also spoke. A vote of thanks was passed to the speakers. Afternoon tea was provided.
