The chairman of the Crippled Children’s Society forwarded a report on the activities of the society during the past year and asking for financial assistance. The Mayor stated that the Society was doing good work, and although no grant was made last year he considered some assistance should be given this worthy cause. The sum of £3 3s was granted. The Wairarapa Power Board secre-tary-manager wrote stating that there would be a shortage of power during the winter, and that the street lights would be shut off at 12.30 a.m. instead of at 3 a.m. The Council agreed to the proposal.

The state of the road near the entrance to the hospital was discussed. The Mayor stated there had been thirteen motor accidents in this locality during the past month. The Traffic Inspector, Mr C. S. The Main Highways Engineer reported that, he would inspect this portion of the road to see if the surface could be improved. It was reported that several name plates had been damaged at the Memorial Park, and the Town Clerk was instructed to write to the Hockey Club asking their assistance in protecting the plates. Eagar was appointed deputy controller of the Greytown area. The Mayor stated that everything was in readiness for the committee to function.
