The Hon. J. G. Barclay, Minister of Agriculture, will officially open the annual conference of the National Dairy Association, which is to begin in Auckland on June 25.

The Hon. H. T. Armstrong, Minister of Public Works, left Wellington yesterday for Blenheim. The Minister, who will proceed to Christchurch today, expects to return to Wellington about the end of the week.

Mr V. Hawke, of Hawke’s Bay, has joined the Masterton branch of Messrs Booth Macdonald, Ltd. Mr Hawke, who commenced duties today, succeeded Mr M. J. O'Connor, who has taken up a new position at Hamilton.

A well-known Napier resident, Mr John Merrylees Runciman, has died, aged 41 years. About four years ago Mr Runciman entered a legal partnership with the late Mr A. H. D. Mayne, whose death occurred at Taupo in January last under tragic circumstances. After Mr Mayne's death, Mr Runciman continued practising on his own account till his illness.

At the annual meeting of the Pahialua Returned Soldiers’ Association the election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr M. R. Lawson; vice-pre-sident, Mr S. Macrae; treasurer, Mr C. S. Carrad; auditor, Mr V. J. Scott; executive committee. Dr. H. Paterson, Messrs P. A. Bisset, A. P. Jensen, R. P. Boagey, G. Kent, G. Ancell, A. E. Cook, F. S. H. Bolton and A. E. Scandrett.

Mr and Mrs John Cratg, of Masterton have received advice that their son, Lance-Corporal A. O. Craig, who is serving with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force overseas, is safe and well in Egypt after the campaign in Greece. Mr and Mrs Craig are staying with their daughter, Mrs D. Brown, 46 Worksop Road. The funeral in Masterton yesterday, of Mrs T. M. Aplin was largely attended. At the residence and at the graveside, services were conducted by the Rev. J. Davie. Included in the considerable number of wreaths were those of the Presbyterian Women's Missionary Union, the Solway-Manaia Women’s Institute and the staff of Wairarapa Transport Ltd. The pall bearers were Messrs E. P. Aplin, J. E. O. Aplin. L. J. Aplin, W. S. King, E. Smith and J. Smith.
