OBITUARY
MRS CATHERINE CHAMBERLAIN. The death occurred at Wanganui on June 9 of Mrs Catherine Chamberlain, widow of the late Mr Thomas Edinburgh Chamberlain, formerly residents of Masterton. The late Mrs Chamberlain. who was in her 89th year, was born in Wellington, a daughter of the late Mr Donald McLachlan. "Tirohanga.” Lower Rangitumau, and resided for many years in Masterton, where her marriage took place. Her husband farmed a property at Upper Plain for a number of years. Mr and Mrs Chamberlain left Masterton about 35 years ago and took up their residence in Wanganui. She is survived by a family of seven. four sons Awo of whom reside in this district. Messrs Herbert. Mt. Bruce, and A. S. Chamberlain, Lansdowne), and three daughters. Five sons and a daughter took part in the last war. two sons losing their lives.
MRS W. R. EMERSON. The death occurred last evening at Burnside Private Hospital of Mrs W. R. Emerson, wife of Mr W. R. Emerson. a well-known solicitor of Taihape, after a long illness. She was the eldest daughter of the late Major and (Mrs Tukc of New Plymouth, and a grand-daughter of the late Colonel Siapt. a well-known Maori war veteran, of Taranaki. The late Mrs Emerson was a keen supporter of the Plunket Society and took a very active interest in the Red Cross Society. She is survived by her husband and one sister. Mrs W. A. Todd, of Masterton. and five brothers, to whom the sympathy of many friends will be extended in their sad bereavement.
