WINTER GREENS
USE WHEN SIGNS OF BURSTING VISIBLE. Early savoys which are showing signs of bursting should be cut and used first, otherwise they will rot. This applies to the winter drumhead and other winter cabbage. Keep the decayed leaves removed from broccoli and kales and always see that the plants are firm in the ground. Where possible draw a little soil up round the stems. Keep the soil stirred around the cabbage to mature in spring as often as weather conditions will allow. Where slugs are troublesome, dust a little old soot around the stems and renew this after rain.
