WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

RONGOKOKAKO MEETING. COMPETITION RESULTS. ("Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Rongokokako Women’s Institute was held on Tuesday, Mrs J. P. Sigvertsen presiding over a fair attendance of members. Visitors from the Nireaha Institute were welcomed. Mrs N. Terry, of Nireaha, gave a very interesting demonstration on felt work. The competitions for the month resulted as follows: Bottled pears. Mrs W. J. O'Neil 1, Miss P. Littler 2; pikelets, Miss E. Sigvertsen 1, Mrs J. P. Sigvertsen 2; best bloom, Mrs H. McKay (geranium) 1. Mrs B. Morriss (camelia) 2. A skill test was won by Miss E. Sigvertsen after a draw off with three others. The bring-and-buy stall was well patronised. A bundle oi clothing made by members of the instutite is to be sent to refugees. Hearty' votes of thanks were accorded Mesdames Terry, Wilkin and George Shannon. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses. Mrs and Miss Nagel. SOLWAY—MANAIA. INTERESTING DEMONSTRATION. The monthly meeting of the SolwayManaia Women’s Institute was held in the Epiphany Hall. Mrs Diamond presided over a fair attendance of members. Mrs Duckworth gave a very interesting demonstration on weaving a footstool with twine. She was accorded a hearty vote of thanks and presented with a shoulder spray. The competitions resulted as follows: —Cooking: Kisses, Mrs Munn 1, Mrs Webber 2. Sewing child's petticoat, Mrs Munn and Mrs Carman, equal, 1. Posy in egg-cup, Mrs Webber 1, Mrs Munn 2, Mrs Catton 3. Best bloom, Mrs Webber 1, Mrs McAllister 2, Mrs Munn 3.

The programme for July will be:— Cooking, short bread; sewing, garment for baby up to 1 year; flora], shoulder spray of autumn foliage, best bloom. The roll call will be a sentence made from the words, Solway-Manaia Institute.
