REPLY TO JAPANESE DEMANDS REFUSAL ENDING MONTHS OF NEGOTIATION. LIMITS PLACED ON EXPORTS. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) BATAVIA. June 6. On behalf of the Netherlands Central Government in London. M. Van Mook, in Batavia today handed to the head of the Japanese economic mission, Mr Yoshizawa, the reply to the Note of Maj' 19, in which Japan requested the East Indies to reconsider its attitude to trade talks. It is understood the reply does not accede to the Japanese demands and limits supplies to vital raw materials to what is considered Japanese domestic requirements. The Dutch affirm that their reply is a final answer, ending nine months’ negotiations. It is believed that the maximum quantities of rubber, tin, quinine and fat-producing products being allowed Japan is based on her average imports from the East Indies. A small margin above this may be permitted. According to the Batavia radio, the reply will contain a refusal to co-operate in any way that will allow Netherlands East Indies products to reach "the arch-enemy. Germany.”
