ALFREDTON
PATRIOTIC SOCIETY FORTNIGHTLY GAMES NIGHT. (“Times-Age” Special.) The fortnightly “games night” conducted by the Patriotic Society was held last Saturday evening. The wim tiers at cards were: Ladies, Mrs G. Youell and Miss E. Mclean (equal) 1; men, Messrs F. Johnson, F. Nordloff and H. Burch (equal) 1. Ladies aggregate, Mrs T. Smith and Mrs J. Williams equal, Mrs Williams winning in the draw. The prize was donated by Mrs H. N. Kebbell. The men's aggregate was won by Mr E. Seymour, this prize having been donated by Mrs H. N. Kebbell. The ladies' aggregate consolation prize, donated by Mrs Algie, was won by Mrs F. Johnson. The men’s aggregate consolation prize was donated by Mrs Algie and won by Mr W. Rolls. Vegetables grown and donated by Master Charlie Leach were auctioned □nd realised 18s. Sprays of red berries donated by Mrs G. Napier brought 3s. A quarter of lamb given by Mr J. Smith, Senr., brought the sum of £1 Is. Two pups given by Mr Walter Rolls were sold for £l. A competition for a tin of biscuits was won by Mrs H. N. Kebbell. The sum of £1 5s 9d was realised from, the competition. The Daulton plate for competition, which brought in £1 ss, was won by Mr F. Nordloff. The total sum obtained during the evening was £lO 14s 3d. Mr R. Kebbell slated that Mrs George's son Trevor, and Mrs F. Mclean's brother were reported missing. A motion was carried expressing sympathy with Mrs George and Mrs Mclean. The hostesses were Mesdames V. Payne, J. Williams and F. Johnson. The gathering was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem. A sewing bee is to be held in the hall next Friday at 10 o’clock. Personal Items. Miss K. and M. Smith spent the weekend with Mrs P. Donovan at Pongaroa. Miss George, of Hastings, has been on a visit to her mother, Mrs George. Mr and Mrs J. Smith have returned to “Forest Flat.” Mr Smith'has been in training at the Foxton Territorial Camp, while Mrs Smith visited her mother. Mrs Fleming, of Wellington. Mr and Mrs A. Hansen were the guests of Mr C. Hartley during the weekend. Mrs Haughton has been on a visit to Alfredton. Home Guard Parade. There was a good attendance al the parade of the Home Guard on Saturday afternoon. Women's War Auxiliary. The Women’s Auxiliary War Service mot on Saturday when Dr. Simmers gave a very interesting lecture on the nerves of the body and the respiratory system.
