Sai Chu Lowe, who met his death on the Torn Beach on Sunday afternoon whilst, fishing with three other young men in a dinghy, was held last night by Mr T. E. Lang, district coroner. The evidence of Arthur Percy Hoare showed that a heavy wave swamped the boat the members of the party’ were in. They had to get out and cling to the boat. Finding the boat drifting out to sea they devested themselves of their heavy clothing and decided to swim to some rocks. Three of them managed to gel ashore, but they never saw the Chinese alive after leaving the boat. Later they found the body of deceased face downwards on the rocks. They tried artificial respiration for a long time but without success. Deceased had a wife and one child. Leonard John Hoare and G. Rowlands gave corroborative evidence. Dr. Budd stated that death was due to drowning. A verdict that deceased had been accidentally drowned was returned.
