FEATHERSTON
PERSONAL ITEMS (“Times-Age” Special.) Privates J. Graham and R. Buick, who have been stationed in Suva, returned home yesterday. The funeral of the late Mr T. Davis took place in Wellington yesterday. The late Mr Davis was the youngest son of Mr Tom Davis, overseer fpr the Featherston County Council, and for a number of years was employed by the Public Works Department. Esperance Bay. Esperance Bay, the winner of the Great Northern Hurdles race at Ellerslie on Monday, was bred at Tauherenikau, and as a yearling was bought at a very modest figure by Mr Tom Ferris, who at that time carried on a butchery business in Featherston. Mr Ferris spared no expense to make the youngster a good horse, but by lite irony of fate, he sold him, just, as his expectations began to materialise, and Esperance Bay. soon after changing hands, began to win good races. However it is some satisfaction to Mr Ferris (who is now an officer in the Army) to know that his judgment was sound. As a result of the horse's win at Auckland' several local punters benefited thereby. '
