GREYTOWN

SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING LAST NIGHT. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown District High School Committee was held last night. There were present: Messrs H. C. Trotman, F. Dennes, R. O'Neale, W. Grigg, E. Galyer, and Mrs Knell (secretary). In the absence of the chairman (Mr H. G. Carter) Mr H. C. Trotman presided. The .headmaster (Mr S. C. Shedden) reported that the attendances at the school were still low, owing to the prevalence of mumps and whooping cough. Mr R. O'Neale was thanked for having made a ladder for the school. Mr G. S. Maloney attended the meeting and gave a report on the school effort in connection with increased production. The figures would be completed in a few days, and the results then published. The proceeds are to be placed in the National Savings Account. The chairman, treasurer, headmaster and Mr Maloney were appointed to finalise the arrangements.

GOLF CLUB DRAW FOR PRESIDENT'S TROPHY. The following is the draw and times of starting for the first round of the persident's trophy (mixed foursomes) on handicap to be played on Saturday:—Mrs J. King, of Lower Hutt. Stayed with Mr and Mrs W. Wenden. Morison's Bush, over the weekend. Mr and Mrs A. G. Nisbet, who have been visiting Wellington, have returned to their home in' Kuratawhiti Street. Hockey Notes. Greytown supporters have every reason to be pleased with the efforts of the teams participating in the King's Birthday tournament. The Kia Kaha team and Scouts won their respective grades convincingly. Added to that, the two Scout teams were the finalists, while in the ladies' sections, Greytown 'A met Greytown B in the semi-final. The ladies' team went through unbeaten. and scored 15 goals for and none against. The B team was defeated only by its A team and then only by 1 to nil, the lowest score put up by the A's. The B team, too, had the honour of defeating the Excelsior A team which was regarded as the most likely section winner. The play of both ladies’ teams was characterised by good positional work, excellent tackling, and sound passing. Home Guard. The Greytown units will parade at the Crown Theatre at 7.30 o'clock tonight.
