GREYTOWN
THE HOME GUARD GROWING EFFICIENCY. (“Times-Age” Special.) Interest in the local Home Guard is increasing and efficiency in carrying out manoeuvres is becoming most marked, under officers who are showing considerable ability in carrying out their onerous duties. If every town in New Zealand possessed as keen and an efficient Home Guard as Greytown then there would be provided a very strong defensive force in this country.
Football. Once the chief stronghold of football in the Wairarapa, Greytown has fallen on somewhat lean times in recent years, but it is pleasing to note that there is every prospect of the senior team being well up in ilie competition this season. The team is being skilfully coached and ably captained, and local followers of Rugby are hopeful that Greytown this season will reestablish the fame which formerly belonged to its football players. Trade in Greytown. Greytown is keeping well to the fore as a trading community, and despite the war conditions business people are serving their customers well. The town has an enviable reputation in regard to supplying fresh goods at reasonable prices and keeping up-to-date stocks. The various firms always strive to meet the wishes of their customers and in every way demonstrate there is no need for Greytown residents to trade in any other Wairarapa town than Greytown.
