ST. MARK’S GUILD SUCCESSFUL SALE OF WORK. (“Times-Age” Special.) The sale of work held by St. Mark’s Church Ladies’ Guild yesterday was very successful. From 9 o'clock in the morning until 4.30 o’clock in the afternoon the ladies worked hard, with the result that the sum of £54 was realised, which is nearly £l2 better than last year's amount. The Guild members are very grateful for the support accorded by the public to the sale of work. FRIESIAN BULL PURCHASED FOR VICTORIA. The Salesian School, Sunbury, Victoria, has purchased from the breeder Mr C. A. Knutson, of Dalefield, the pedigree Friesian bull, Turepo Homestead King Olga, an 18-months bull from Ahikouka Colantha Olga (7221b5. of butterfat). His maternal sisters are Turepo R. L. Olga (607.031b5. of butterfat in 259 days), North Island champion cow. 1940, and Turepo Colantha Echo, champioh dairy cow of all breeds at the Wairarapa Show in 1939. His sire, Turepo Homestead Fobes, is a son of Turepo Ranger Wakalona, first prize 3-year-old bull at the 1938 Royal Show. The dam of Turepo Homestead Fobes is Topsy Fobes Beets (7571b5. of butterfat). The bull Turepo Homestead King Olga should prove a great breed sire as 6 of his 7 recent dams average 6731b5. of butterfat, and he comes from a highly proven strain both for type and production. The Friesian returns for March for cows on Government official herd test show the top cow as Turepo Princess Wayne (90.741b5. of butterfat) owned by Mr R. E. A. Gillman, of Woodend, Canterbury. The next highest was Turepo R. L. Fobes (4-year-old), with 81.091b5. of butterfat, and owned by Mr C. A. Knutson, of Dalefield. Other cows with high production to March 31 include Tarata Princess Fobes (431.841b5. of butterfat in 209 days) and Tarata Hope (433.651b5. of butterfat in 207 days), both-owned by Mr L. S. Gallon, Carterton; Pinebush - Colantha Echo (454.811b5. of butterfat t in 229 days) and Ahikouka Pioneer J 4 Olga (432.621b5. of butterfat in 180 > days), both owned by Mr C. A. WOMEN’S DIVISION GARDEN CIRCLE MEETING. The annual meeting of the Women’s Division of the Farmers' Union Garden Circle was held yesterday afternoon. Those present were Mesdames K. Reid: H. E. Ord.ish, L. R. Maitland, L. Rayner, E. Allen, T. McKenzie, H. Abbott, P. Hodder, Archer and G. 'Couper. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Hicks, Standen, and Warrington. It was decided to hold the flower shows as usual, and that the next show be arranged for September’ It was decided that entries must be staged by 11.30 a.m. on show mornings, otherwise they would be for exhibition only. It was decided that a vegetable competition be held each month. Mrs H. Peters and another member is to arrange these competitions. It was resolved that the blooms be sold each month. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mrs P. Hodder (re-elected); secretary, Mrs G. Couper (re-elected); treasurer, Mrs H. Abbott (re-elected). The president in her report stated inter alia: “I wish to thank all members for their valuable help in connection with the flower displays hold at the December and March monthly meetings which were substituted for the usual spring and autumn shows, that were abandoned on account of the war conditions and the benzine restrictions. To all those who have suffered through sickness or bereavement I wish to extend sympathy. Let us hope that before long peace will prevail, and that those who have dear ones on active service will be re-united with them. I wish to thank Mesdames Maitland and H. Abbott for their help, with a special word of thanks to Mrs G. Couper (secretary) for her untiring efforts and for printing the schedules and taking entries in connection with the shows.” Personal Items. Private Basil Gayfer and his mother are visiting Blenheim. Mrs J. B. BrickeH, of Kent Street, Carterton, has received word that her son, Private A. W. Brickell. is reported missing in connection with the Greek campaign. Mr and Mrs Maxwell, of Mata Mata, Bay of Plenty, are visiting Carterton, and are the guests of Mr and Mrs J. Conwell. Mrs B. I. Parker, of Wanganui, has received cfl'icial advice that her husband, Sergt. Stanley Parker, is posted missing on active service. Sergt. Parker is well known in Carterton where he lived for years prior to enlisting. He left with the Second N.Z.E.F. Warrant Officer Jas. A. Yule, whose mother is Mrs B. Yule, of the Taratahi Hotel, is reported by the military authorities to be missing. The death occurred in the Masterton Hospital today of Mrs Bertha Olive Edmonds, wife cf Mr John Edmonds, ■ of Carterton, and formerly of Petone, : at the ago of 64. Th? funeral will leave the Chapel of King’s Funeral Service. 1 Carterton, tomorrow at 2 p.m. for the ' Clareville Cemetery.
