EKETAHUNA

MOTHERS’ UNION

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

(“Times-Age” Special.)

On Thursday afternoon the Eketahuna branch of the Mothers’ Union celebrated its second birthday. There was a large attendance of members and friends at the church service which was conducted by Archdeacon E. J. Rich, of Masterton, and the Rev. L. Ives, Vicar of St. Cuthbert’s Church. After an impressive service the congregation adjourned to the schoolroom where Archdeacon Rich gave a most interesting talk on the war, for which he was warmly thanked by Mr Ives. Much appreciated items were rendered by Mrs Hart (pianoforte solos) and Miss A. Schultz (humorous monologues). During the afternoon tea interval the two candles on the birthday cake, which had been made and donated by Mrs Ives and decorated bj' Mrs D. Fraser, were lit by Mrs Ives, who called upon the Mayoress, Mrs W. Olsen, to extinguish them. The cake was cut by Mrs Fishburn, a member cf the Petone Mothers' Union, who congratulated the Eketahuna branch and wished it many more happy birthdays. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the hostesses, Mesdames A. H. Gray, W. Anderson, F. C. Turnor, W. Evans and Murray-Ansley.
