FEATHERSTON
LAKE DOMAIN BOARD VANDALISM REPORTED. ("Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Wairarapa Lake Domain Board will take place on Monday at 7.30 p.m. in the Odd Fellows’ Hall. ‘ The signposts at the Domain have recently suffered somewhat at the hands of vandals. Some have been interferred with, and one has completely disappeared. Possibly all that remains of this are a few ashes in a camper's fire. During the recent shooting season the Domain has been a favourite “hunting ground." Ranger Benton has joined in the “hunt" not only after ducks and swan, but checking upon permits. No shooters are supposeci to shoot on this reserve without written authority, and those who do must be prepared to take the consequences. First Aid Classes Resume. After a recess of several weeks, the Red Cross Society’s classes will commence on Tuesday next, when it is anticipated there will be a substantial increase in the numbers attending. Several members have signified their intention of attending the classes to freshen the training received in the past. Physical Training and Drill. The girls attending the Red Cross Society's classes will assemble at the Drill Hall on Tuesday night at 7 o’clock for the purpose of receiving drill instruction. The Home Guard has loaned two of their N.C.O’s. who will give the instructions. The attendance, it is hoped, will be good, and that several new members will march into the ranks. After half an hour's drill the members will proceed to the Society's rooms where Mr J. E. Willett will supervise the work. Car Registrations. The wise motorist will not leave the registering cf his vehicle to the last few days, when there will be a rush of business at the Post Office. The new car and driving license covers a period of thirteen months, to June 30, 1942, so that the fees have been increased slightly as a consequence. A new card system has been instituted for the driver's license and each applicant must apply personally and fill in his card. In subsequent years a signature only will be required.
Dance Review. Miss Billie Stevens, of Petone, who produced the Dance Review on Thursday night last is nut only a talented teacher, but designs most of the costumes her pupils wear. These were a feature of the programme and received very favourable comment. Miss Stevens was very ably assisted bj r Mrs W. Merrick, ns accompaniste. Women's War Service Auxiliary. In connection with the Women's War Service Auxiliary better response is being received, to date, as the womenfolk are heeding the call to duty. At least the duty side has not yet commenced, but as soon as finality in completing enrolment forms has been attained, a register will be completed and a syllabus drawn up. Therefore, let us equip ourselves in the great duty cf serving our country to the best of cur ability, no matter how irksome that duty may be. and adopt as our keynote, co-operation, efficiency and harmony. Personal Items. Miss Shirley Gumbley, of Auckland, is the guest of Miss Joan Marshall. Mr and Mrs R. C. McKenzie and infant son, who have been staying with Miss Card and Mr Card, have returned to Ballance. Miss Brenda Bloxam has returned to Auckland after having spent the school vacation with her parents, Mr and Mrs H. R. Bloxam. Mr R. R. P. Hardy is making satisfactory progress towards recovery. He is still a patient in the Kelvin private hospital. Miss I. Collier, of Greytown, who had been until recently attached to the staff I of the Martinborough school, has been appointed infant mistress at the Featherston District High School, and will commence her duties on Monday. Tiie acting-vicar, the Rev. J. Higgs, has received advice that the vicar, the Rev. J. T. Holland, will deliver a farewell service at St. John’s Anglican Church on Sunday evening. Opportunity will be taken by the many parishioners to bid farewell to Padre Holland, who is to go overseas. Schools to Reopen on Monday. The schools will reopen on Monday after the winter vacation of two weeks. Red Cross Society Funds. The Red Cross Society's funds wiil benefit to the extent of approximately £'2o from Thursday night’s entertainment. There arc still one or two small returns to come in from the sale of tickets, so that the result should be considered highly satisfactory. The flag collection helped to swell the above amount by £3 3s sd. A special vote cf thanks and appreciation has been extended to Mr J. E. Willett, who so ably attended to every detail, and was assisted by a band of willing helpers. The Red Cross Society Executive is also deserving of special mention, as it provided a tasty tea and supper for the performers.
