WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT OPAKI. COMPETITION WINNERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The May meeting of the Opaki Women’s Institute was held at the home of Mrs Norman Wyeth, when Mrs Beetham presided over a good attendance. A report on the Wairarapa Federation’s annual meeting, held in Masterton on April 30, was given by Miss O. lorns, the reporting delegate. In reply to questions from the Dominion Executive the Institute passed a motion in favour of the holding of a general meeting in 1942. A sum of money, not required for the purpose for which it was subscribed by members, was set aside for the soldiers' parcels fund. The Institute expressed itself in favour of a sliding scale of contributions to the Federation funds. Mrs Jarrett gave a demonstration on tatting, for which she received a vote of thanks. The roll calk "A programme for one month’s meeting” brought useful suggestions. The monthly competitions resulted: Sewing, child’s petticoat, Mrs Rayner 1, Mrs Buick 2, Mrs Marchbank and Mrs Jaine equal 3; cooking, shortbread, Mrs Wingate 1, Mrs Buick 2, Mrs Beetham 3; best bloom. Mrs Malmo 1, Mrs Miller 2, Mrs Rayner and Mrs Wyeth equal 3. The June meeting will be held at the home of Mrs Beetham when the roll call will be “Tales my grandfather told me,” and the competitions, child’s dress (age two to three years), bran biscuits, best bloom. Afternoon tea was provided.
