SEWING DAY
COUNTRY DISTRICTS SUB-CENTRE MANY ACTIVITIES RECORDED The bi-monthly sewing day of the Country Districts sub-centre of the Red Cross Society was held yesterday. There was a good attendance of workers. Work was carried out on relief clothing, much of which had been prepared previously by Mrs W. Taylor and Mrs De Castro. . Mrs McLean and helpers catalogued and pigeon-holed a large amount of emergency hospital equipment. The V.A.D.’s under Mrs W. James are working hard and gradually accumulating satisfactory equipment. Several members are learning to spin and it is hoped to soon have wool for knitters. Thanks were expressed to Mr Verity for attending to the machines, to Mr Wingate and Mr Barrel- for black fleeces - , to the Opaki Women's Institute for two parcels the Kopuaranga Institute, two parcels. Tinui Emergency Committee and Wangaehu Red Cross knitters, a parcel each, all of now or little worn clothes. Thanks were expressed also to Mrs George Dagg, who gave a demonstration on making useful articles from old felt hats.
